By now ,most of you must have heard about Maskne. Maskne’ is now a new term for acne that occurs due to as wearing disposable or reusable face masks .As masks have becomes the social norm hindering the regulation of fresh air, lockdown-induced stress and environmental changes are causing unexpected acne issues for global consumers.
Masks act like occlusive barriers, which means trapped makeup can lead to clogged pores and breakouts. Also, residue from makeup can soil your mask fabric. Dirt and oil from your skin plus bacteria from your mouth and nose will end up on your cloth mask. When properly worn and fitted, masks create a pressurized seal that increases the temperature and humidity around your nose and mouth area .
For healthcare personnel, surgical and respirator masks can cause physical irritation simply from the rough texture of the mask against the skin, friction and chemical irritation from any irritant substances that they have been treated with — in addition to contact with the microbes that we exhale into the mask.
Though the fabric masks are softer, they still might cause dryness, which leads to irritation, since many fabrics used for them (like cotton blends) absorb our natural oils.
We should try to adhere to the following care points in the current scenario.
Wear a clean mask whenever humanly possible.
If a fresh mask is not possible every time, spray the inside of the mask with alcohol after every use, and let it dry before putting it back on.
Before wearing any mask, apply a rich oil-based moisturizer or balm.
For a dry sensitive skin, look for ingredients like shea butter, cocoa butter or jojoba oil to create an extra barrier between your skin and the mask, similar to what you might do for a small child to protect their skin.
Makeup may actually help protect skin, but with an important carepoint.
If you have makeup on, this will create an extra barrier, but make sure you remove it as soon as possible because the mask on top of the skin may physically cause the makeup to clog pores.
Make sure your skin care regimen is gentle.
Look for milk or lotion cleansers, oil cleansers, aloe-based toners and moisturizers. To avoid any irritants, choose either fragrance-free or products specially suited for sensitive skin.
Hence , its crucial that during the lockdown we gradually adapt to a new routine for hair and skincare. As always, our information remains incomplete without the very important but understated lifestyle measures. Skin is the mirror of internal body. A healthy body and rested mind leads to glowing skin. The aim of the lockdown is to fight the infection, hence, at this time it is all the more important to have food packed with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.
